Barons Roll Past Biscuits in Series Opener

REGIONS FIELD – Birmingham, Alabama –The Birmingham Barons turned 12 hits into eight runs to get their 10th win of the season defeating Montgomery 8-1 Tuesday before a crowd of 3,162 at Regions Field. This is the third game in a row where the Barons have double digits in hits.

The Barons (10-3) had five players with two hits or more in the game. Emilio Vargas pitched four shutout innings to start the game for the Barons. Relief pitcher Ofreidy Gomez (3-0, 1.54) didn’t give up a run or hit in three innings for the win. Gomez had four strikeouts in the win and leads the team with 19 strikeouts on the season.

The Barons scored first in the game in the second inning, where J.J. Muno singled to center scored Micker Adolfo. Two batters later, Zach Granite singled to right field scoring Craig Dedelow and Muno. With the runs, the Barons took a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third inning the Barons scored again on a double play ground out and Zach Remillard came into score. With the run, the Barons led 4-0.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, a Adolfo RBI double scored Remillard and the Barons extended their lead to 5-0. Montgomery (4-8) scored their only run of the game on a home run by Miles Mastrobuoni. The Barons still led 5-1.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Barons scored three more insurance runs when Carlos Perez scored on a pass ball, a Muno triple scored Laz Rivera and a Mitch Roman single scored Muno. With those three runs, the Barons led 8-1.

Peter Tago pitched the eighth inning giving up a run on the home run to Mastrobuoni and Luis Ledo closed out the game with a game ending double play ball for the Barons.

Adolfo went 3-for-4 in the game with a RBI and a run scored. Muno was 2-for-3 with two RBI’s and two runs scored along with his league leading fifth stolen base of the season.

The Barons starting pitchers continue to shine on the season as the are currently 6-0 with a 2.08 ERA.
