BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Nick Madrigal delivered three hits and stole a pair of bases as the Birmingham Barons (24-36) topped the Jackson Generals (34-26) by a 4-3 final Thursday night at Regions Field.

Madrigal, ranked as the No. 43 prospect in baseball according to MLB Pipeline, singled and stole a base in the first, did so again in the third, and drove a line-drive off the outstretched glove of Generals shortstop Jazz Chisholm in the seventh. He reached base four times on the night after a fifth-inning error.
The former Oregon State standout, who began the 2019 season with Class-A Advanced Winston-Salem, became the first Barons player with a three-hit debut since Joel Booker accomplished the feat with four base knocks June 21, 2018 at Montgomery.
Blake Rutherford matched Madrigal's offensive efforts with three hits and two stolen bases of his own, while Gavin Sheets launched his team-high seventh home run of the season, as the Barons provided plenty of fireworks in the series finale.
Alfredo González's run-scoring single in the fifth represented the eventual game-winning run.
Barons starter Tanner Banks (W, 1-3) earned his first victory of the season after the left-hander allowed just one run on three hits across five innings of work.
Southpaw Hunter Schryver logged two innings out of the bullpen to record his second hold, while right-hander Luis Martinez staved off a ninth-inning rally to pick
up his second save of the campaign. Jackson placed the potential tying run on third with one out in the ninth before Barons shortstop Laz Rivera fired a throw home on a soft grounder and Yermin Mercedes applied a diving tag to prevent the run from scoring.
Right-hander Joel Payamps (L, 0-1) suffered the loss for Jackson after he surrendered three runs on five hits in three innings of work.
Barons outfielder Luis Robert exited the game with one out in the ninth inning with a non-contact injury. It is not considered serious and he is listed as day-to-day.
Following the conclusion of their 11-game homestand, the Barons will hit the road and travel to Mobile for a five-game set against the BayBears. Birmingham right-hander Lincoln Henzman (0-0, 9.53) will oppose Mobile right-hander Jeremy Beasley (2-3, 3.40).
First pitch in the series opener is set for 7:05 p.m. CT at Hank Aaron Stadium and the game will be broadcast via WJOX-AM 690.
