The Boise Hawks (16-13) fell on Saturday night by a final score of 9-8 to the Vancouver Canadians (15-14). Boise will play the rubber match of the series tomorrow. Matt Hearn finishes the night going 5-6 with two runs scored for Boise in the three hour and 53 minute game.

Vancouver got the first runs of the game in the 2nd when Jake Brodt hit his first home run of his professional career making it 2-0 Vancouver. Boise got a triple from Luke Morgan and after a wild pitch, Morgan scored from 3rd base to make it 2-1 Canadians after two innings.

The Canadians added more in the 3rd inning after doubles by Hunter Steinmetz and Vincent Capra made it a 3-1 Vancouver lead.

Vancouver then got an RBI single from Yorman Rodriguez to make the score 4-1. Nick Podkul sent home Rodriguez with an RBI single for himself and the Canadians had a 5-1 lead after the 3rd inning.

The Hawks would come back though. In the 5th, Danny Edgeworth delivered a two-RBI single to make it a 5-3 game as Boise trailed by just two despite acting Manager Cesar Galvez being ejected from the game after arguing a strike-three call to Hidekel Gonzalez.

Daniel Jipping hit his 6th home run of the season in the 6th and the game was tied at five. Nick Podkul didn't leave the game like that for long. Vancouver's second-baseman belted a two-run home run to left in the top of the 7th and the Canadians had the lead back at 7-5.

Canadians Manager Dallas McPherson was ejected from the game in the bottom of the 7th after arguing balls and strikes.

Otto Lopez extended the lead for Vancouver in the top of the 8th. An RBI-single gave the Canadians an 8-5 advantage. But Boise had an answer in the bottom of the frame. Luis Castro singled to bring home Matt Hearn despite Terrin Vavra being thrown out at the plate. Luke Morgan than grounded out to bring in a run, and the Hawks were down just 8-7

Vancouver answered in the 9th thanks to a Bryan Lizardo RBI single taking a 9-7 lead.

In the bottom of the 9th, the Hawks loaded the bases and Luis Castro had an RBI single to make it 9-8. But the game ended as Danny Edgeworth struck-out swinging with the bases loaded.

The Hawks return tomorrow on Dog Day Sunday. It will also be Kids Club Sunday presented by Albertsons. First pitch is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. Get your tickets at BoiseHawks.com or call 208-322-5000.
