The Boise Hawks (29-32, 8-15) fell to the Eugene Emeralds (24-36, 11-12) by a final score of 6-1 on Saturday night. Boise had two hits for the game and one of them was a Cole Anderson home run.

Eugene scored the game's first run in the bottom of the 1st inning off Hawks starter Justin Valdespina. After DJ Artis doubled to lead off the game, a groundball from Grant Fennell moved the runner to third-base, and it was a sacrifice fly for Andy Weber to make it 1-0 Eugene.

The Emeralds added another in the 2nd inning. With Nelson Velazquez on 2nd-base, Caleb Knight hit one hard down the 3rd-base line as Jeff Bohling made a diving play at 3rd on the groundball. He got up and threw the ball over his first-baseman's head, allowing Velazquez to score. Eugene took a 2-0 advantage.

The Hawks got their first run of the game in the 3rd inning on a Cole Anderson home run. A solo shot was his 5th of the year and the Hawks trailed at 2-1. Eugene scored again in the 3rd inning on a Jonathan Sierra RBI-single and the Emeralds took a 3-1 lead.

Boise starter Justin Valdespina gave the Hawks five innings on the mound as he allowed three runs, and only two were earned.

On the other mound though, Eugene starter Faustino Carrera was dealing. He went six innings allowing just one run, and only one hit on the Anderson home run. He also struck-out six.

Boise got runners on first and second in the 7th with one out, but Cam Sanders came in the game and threw one pitch to get a double play ball and end the threat.

Reagan Todd made his debut for the Hawks in the 7th and he got a three-up, three-down inning, including two strikeouts in his debut.

In the 8th inning, after Shelby Lackey got the first two outs for the Hawks, he gave up four straight hits and allowed three runs to make it 6-1 Eugene. The runs are the first scored against Lackey since July 1st, as he had not allowed a run in his last 18 innings-pitched.

Boise couldn't get anything going in the 9th and they fall 6-1 in game two of the series.

The Hawks will continue their annual 11-game road trip and play against the Eugene Emeralds tomorrow for the final game of the series. First pitch will be at 6:05 p.m. MT on 101.5 KOOL-FM. The Hawks will return home on Wednesday, August 29th to take on the Hillsboro Hops.
