Bowling Green, KY - As part of unveiling their promotional calendar for the 2016 season, the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Class-A/Tampa Bay Rays) announced the plans to their first annual "Bootlegger Night" on Wednesday.
An idea brought on by past and present members of the Bowling Green staff, Bootlegger Night will serve as a tribute to the "Hot Rod" aiding the bootlegging industry over a century ago as a way to outrun law enforcement. This rich bourbon heritage has since become synonymous with Kentucky, with over 35 distilleries present throughout the state.
"This is going to be an awesome night to celebrate the great state of Kentucky," said Hot Rods Assistant General Manager Eric Leach.
"Out of those old bootlegging years, one of the most productive industries in our area was produced. We can't wait to have some fun with some VIP tastings and raising money for a good cause to honor this tradition."
As fans will be greeted by a special "Mason Jar Giveaway" when they enter the gates, the Hot Rods will wear customized hats and specialty jerseys styled after a bourbon barrel. The jerseys will be auctioned off after the game and the proceeds will be donated to a charity that will be determined at a later date.
In addition to the customized apparel, fans will also have the opportunity to pre-order two packages featuring personalized memorabilia from the night.
For $25, the "Swag Package" will give fans a Bootlegger signature hat and a Mason Jar while the "Speakeasy Package" will feature those two items along with a game ticket and a KY Spirits Tasting for just $32.
Bootlegger Night is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 16 as the Hot Rods will host the Beloit Snappers at Bowling Green Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM.
The Bowling Green Hot Rods open their eighth season in Southcentral Kentucky on Thursday, April 7th against the Dayton Dragons. Holiday packs and season tickets are now available for the 2016 season at the Hot Rods front office and online at BGHotRods.com.
