BELOIT, WI - The Bowling Green Hot Rods defeated the Beloit Snappers 8-0 this evening at Pohlman Field. CF Carl Chester had three hits, including a home run, and RHP Tommy Romero threw seven innings, allowing just four hits. The game was shortened to seven innings due to rain in southern Wisconsin.
In the top of the first, the Hot Rods got going. SS Taylor Walls hit a one-out singled, and promptly scored when LF Moises Gomez hit an RBI triple. Gomez then scored on an RBI fielder's choice from C Ronaldo Hernandez . Chester collected his first hit of the evening when he singled in Hernandez, and it was 3-0 Bowling Green.
Chester struck again in the third. He hit his fifth home run of the season, and it made the lead 4-0.
Bowling Green put the game away in the fifth, scoring four runs on four hits and taking advantage of two walks. 1B Jim Haley dealt the big blow with a two-run single, and the Hot Rods led 8-0.
The rains came with two outs in the top of the eighth inning, and the game went into a delay at that point and never resumed.
Romero earned the win, throwing seven innings. He allowed just four hits and three walks, striking out eight, which tied a season high.
The Hot Rods will try and win the series tomorrow night at 7:00pm Central time. LHP Resly Linares (3-2, 4.04) will go for Bowling Green, while Beloit will counter with RHP Mitchell Jordan (3-2, 2.45).
