Hot Rods Rout Captains in Series Opener

BOWLING GREEN, KY --- In the opener of a eight-game homestand, the Bowling Green Hot Rods to the opener of a four-game set against the Lake County Captains by a score of 7-2 at Bowling Green Ballpark on Monday. 
Bowling Green got the scoring started on a RBI single by third basemen Adrian Rondon in the second inning. Rondon came around to score on a wild pitch to make the score 2-0. 
The Hot Rods continued their hot hitting in the fifth inning as they scored three runs off of Captains starter Luis Jimenez (L, 2-7). Bowling Green got a RBI triple from catcher Rene Pinto , a RBI double from outfielder Jesus Sanchez and a RBI single from outfielder Joshua Lowe during the frame. 
Two innings later, the Hot Rods scored their final two runs of the game, the highlight being a RBI single by first basemen Bobby Melley .
Overall, the Hot Rods cranked out 13 hits, as infielders Jim Haley and Luis Rengifo along with Pinto and Melley each had two hits. 
On the pitching side, starter Willy Ortiz (W, 7-1) put together another dazzling outing, giving up one run in 5.2 innings while striking out six batters. 
Ortiz has now given up one or fewer runs in nine of his thirteen starts this year with the Hot Rods. He owns a 7-0 record on the mound with a 1.85 ERA (12 ER/58.1 IP) over his last ten starts. 
Dating back to the start of the 2016 season, Ortiz had a 15-1 record on the bump.
To secure the win for the Hot Rods and Ortiz, righty Reimin Ramos  notched his fifth save of the season. 
With the win, the Hot Rods brought their magic number to clinch a playoff spot down to thirteen. They also have evened the season series with the Captains at 8-8. 
Bowling Green will try to continue their winning ways on Tuesday in the second game of a eight-game homestand with the second of four games against the Lake County Captains at Bowling Green Ballpark.
The Hot Rods will send RHP Spencer Moran  to the mound while the Captains will counter lefty Brady Aiken. 
First pitch is at 6:35 PM.
