FORT WAYNE, IN - The Bowling Green Hot Rods swept the Fort Wayne TinCaps with a 6-1 win. The Hot Rods battled through some tough pitching but were able to come away with the win, and finish the season series at Parkview Field with a 5-5 record.
The Hot Rods and the TinCaps were scoreless through the first three innings as RHP Austin Franklin and LHP McKenzie Gore were both locked in. The TinCaps got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth inning when 2B Kelvin Melean leadoff with a double, and scored on another double from C Luis Campusano and Fort Wayne lead 1-0.
Bowling Green responded right away in the top of the fifth when DH Moises Gomez leadoff with a walk, and then 3B Trey Hair followed up with a single. 1B Jim Haley singled as well and moved the runners up to second and third, but was out as he tried to advance to second. Gomez scored on a passed ball to tie up the game, and RF Eleardo Cabrera doubled home Hair to give Bowling Green a 2-1 lead.
Gore ended up going five innings for Fort Wayne, and allowed three hits, two runs, two walks, and struck out three.
The Hot Rods got their third run of the game in the seventh when Haley scored on a throwing error that occurred after 2B Vidal Brujan singled and the Hot Rods had an insurance run.
For Bowling Green Franklin threw seven innings and allowed just five hits, one run, no walks, and struck out four.
The Hot Rods got another run in the ninth inning when Hair and Haley both had base hits to start the inning. LF Emilio Gustave picked up an RBI single to make the score 4-1. Bowling Green got its fifth run when it appeared that Gustave was going to be picked off, as he was caught in the rundown Haley broke home, and the throw was not in time. Both runners were safe and the Hot Rods lead 5-1. CF Carl Chester pick up an RBI with a single that scored Gustave and it was 6-1 before the inning ended.
RHP Mikey York recorded the final six out of the game without allowing a run. He recorded his second save of the season.
