BOWLING GREEN, KY - The Great Lakes Loons got the best of the Bowling Green Hot Rods with a 5-3 win. The Hot Rods got out to a three run lead in the first inning, but it wasn't enough.
It was the bottom of the first inning when the Hot Rods scored all of their runs. 2B Vidal Brujan got things started with a single, he then stole second, and stole third, before coming home to score on a single from DH Carl Chester . Then with one out C Ronaldo Hernandez put a ball in the left field bullpen to give the Hot Rods a 3-0 lead.
The Loons first responded in the top of the second inning when DH Luke Heyer was hit by a pitch, and then scored on a double from C Hunter Feduccia and it was a 3-1 ballgame.
Great Lakes took the lead in the third inning; an inning where they send nine batters to the plate. CF Josh McLain got things started with a singled, and then SS Brandon Montgomery put a ball into the left field bullpen to tie the game at 3-3.
Things continued to go downhill for Bowling Green as 2B Devin Mann singled, advanced to second after a walk, stole third and scored on an error to give the Loons the lead. They added an insurance run before the inning ended thanks to a single from 1B Brock Carpenter to take the 5-3 lead.
RHP Phoenix Sanders was the first pitcher out of the pen for the Hot Rods and he threw three shutout innings. RHP Tyler Day followed up with two shutout innings of his own, and then RHP Orlando Romero also threw a shutout inning out of the Bowling Green bullpen.
The Fort Wayne TinCaps come to town tomorrow for Margaritaville Night at Bowling Green Ballpark. Starting pitchers for the series have not been announced, and first pitch will be at 6:35pm CST.
