May 14, 2015

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- BB&T Ballpark, Uptown Charlotte's ultimate summer destination spot, has been named as the "Best Ballpark in Minor League Baseball" by Baseball America.

Baseball America surveyed more than 100 minor league general managers, radio announcers, league observers and others involved in the game about the best ballparks in the sport to help create a top 25 ranking as well as the top venues in each league. More than 60 ballparks were nominated to be included among the top five.

BB&T Ballpark opened its gates on Friday, April 11, 2014 and was the most visited Minor League Baseball venue in 2014. Including the Gildan Triple-A Baseball National Championship Game on September 16, BB&T Ballpark welcomed 696,601 fans in 2014 -- leading all of Minor League Baseball in attendance.

The club's 9,686 per-game average over the course of the 71-regular season home game schedule was also tops among all Minor League franchises in 2014. Overall for the 2014 regular season, the ballpark welcomed 687,715 fans.

Over the course of 2014, the Knights and BB&T Ballpark were named "Charlottean of the Year" by Charlotte Magazine, and also received awards from the Charlotte Business Journal, Engineering News Record (ENR), and the Associated Builders and Contractors of the Carolinas. The Knights were also awarded the prestigious Bob Freitas Award by Baseball America in December.

This season, BB&T Ballpark played host to it's first-ever collegiate game on Tuesday, March 31 (8,147 fans) and an exhibition game between the Chicago White Sox and Charlotte Knights on Friday, April 3 (10,556 fans). The White Sox exhibition game was the first of its kind in Charlotte since the Charlotte O's hosted their parent club, the Baltimore Orioles, in the summer of 1984.

BB&T Ballpark hosts 72 regular season home games each season, as well as special events throughout the year. The ballpark will next play host to Team USA vs. the Cuban National Team on July 4, 2015 & the Triple-A All-Star Game on July 13, 2016.
