Lookouts Announce 2025 Coaching Staff

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Today, the Cincinnati Reds have announced that Jose Moreno will return to the Chattanooga Lookouts for his fourth season as the team’s manager. Joining Moreno on staff will be pitching coach Joel Bonnett, hitting coach Mike Jacobs, returning coach Dick Schofield and new coach Reggie Williams.

This season will be Jose Moreno’s sixth season in the Reds organization and fourth in Chattanooga as the team’s manager. Under his direction, seven former players reached the big leagues last season and made their Major League debuts, including Reds 2023 first-round draft pick Rhett Lowder.

In 2025, the Lookouts will have a brand-new face leading the pitching staff. Pitching coach Joel Bonnett joins the Reds organization after three years with the Toronto Blue Jays. Last season Bonnett served as the pitching coach for the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats of the Eastern League. Joining Bonnett on staff is Mike Jacobs. Jacobs will be in his fourth season with the Reds and first in Chattanooga. The former Major League first baseman spent last year in Louisville as a coach.

Rounding out the coaching staff are Dick Schofield and Reggie Williams. Schofield is entering his 13th season in the organization and second with the Lookouts. The former infielder spent 14 Major League seasons with the Angels, Mets, Blue Jays, and Dodgers. Williams is returning to the Reds after serving as the Head Coach at Alcorn State for the last three seasons. Prior to his tenure with Alcorn St., Williams was a Minor League instructor with the Reds.

The Lookouts also welcome Josh Hobson, who will be in his second year as the team’s athletic trainer, and Tim Rodmaker, who will be in his first season as the Lookouts strength and conditioning coach.

Video & technology specialist Caden Elwell will also be on staff.

The Chattanooga Lookouts 2025 season is right around the corner. Single-game tickets for the upcoming season will be available for purchase online beginning on February 18 at 10:00 a.m. For more information call 423-267-2208. 2025 LOOKOUTS COACHING STAFF

JOSE MORENO - Manager

Jose Moreno is in his sixth season in the organization and his fourth at Double-A Chattanooga. He spent the 2021 season as manager at Class A Dayton after working in 2020 assigned as manager of the Reds' rookie Arizona League affiliate in Goodyear. Prior to joining the Reds, Jose spent 19 years with the Mariners organization, managing at multiple levels (most recently at short-season Class A Everett) and serving as Latin American field coordinator for 4 seasons. He also spent 5 seasons as the third base coach with Cardenales de Lara in the Venezuelan Winter League (2005-2009) and 3 seasons with that team as manager, including back-to-back Venezuelan Winter League championship years in 2019 and 2020.

JOEL BONNETT - Pitching Coach

Joel Bonnett will enter his fourth year in professional baseball, his third as a Pitching Coach, and his first with Chattanooga. Bonnett spent the 2024 season as the pitching coach with the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and before that was a member of the Vancouver Canadians coaching staff in 2022 and 2023. Before coaching with an affiliate, Bonnett was a pitching coach at The University of Illinois Springfield and worked in the same role at Southwest Minnesota State University, Hendrix College, and Benedictine University. The native of Springfield, IL, played four seasons at NCAA III North Park University, spending time as both a starter and a closer. He finished his career 7th all-time in appearances (23) and 4th all-time in saves (7).

MIKE JACOBS - Hitting Coach

Jacobs, 43, is in his fourth season in the organization and first with the Lookouts. For the last three seasons, Jacobs served as a coach on Pat Kelly’s staff at Triple-A Louisville. Before joining the Reds in 2022, he spent the previous five years as a manager in the player development department of the Marlins for their Batavia (2017-2018), Clinton (2019), Jupiter (2020, COVID-19 season) and Beloit (2021) affiliates. The former first baseman was originally selected by the Mets in the 1999 draft and spent 18 years playing professional baseball, including seven seasons with the Mets, Marlins, Royals, and Diamondbacks. He hit 100 career home runs in 569 career MLB games.

DICK SCHOFIELD - Coach

Dick Schofield is in his 13th season in the organization and in 2025 will be his second year with Chattanooga. In 2021, he served as a development coach for the Tortugas. Schofield was assigned to manage Daytona in 2020 until the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the minor league season. Schofield spent the 2018, 2019 and 2022 seasons with Louisville. In 2018, he began the season as the Bats' bench coach but took over as Louisville's manager after Pat Kelly was promoted to the Major League staff on April 19. Schofield served as Class AA Pensacola’s bench coach in 2017 and hitting coach in 2013. In 2016 for the Class A Dayton Dragons, Dick served as manager, a position he also held at rookie Billings from 2014-2015. Before joining the Reds, Schofield worked in the Angels’ minor league system as a hitting coach for their rookie league AZL team (2007-2010) and Class A Inland Empire (2011). He was the Halos' roving infield coordinator in 2012. The former shortstop played 14 Major League seasons with the Angels, Mets, Blue Jays, and Dodgers and led the American League in fielding percentage 4 times. Schofield played on the Angels’ 1986 Western Division championship club, hitting .300 in that year’s ALCS against the Red Sox, and was a member of Toronto’s 1993 World Series championship team. In Game 3 of that ‘86 ALCS, he belted a home run off Dennis “Oil Can” Boyd. A native of Springfield, IL, Schofield was selected by the Angels in the first round (third overall) of the 1981 draft. He resides in Camdenton, MO and has 4 children.

REGGIE WILLIAMS - Coach

Reggie Williams rejoins the Reds after being the Head Coach at Alcorn State for three seasons. Prior to that, he spent four years in the Cincinnati Reds organization. He most recently served as development coach for the teams' Class A club, the Daytona Tortugas. He joined the Reds in 2017 after spending seven seasons in the Milwaukee Brewers system, starting as a base running and outfield coordinator before he coached for Class A Brevard County and Rookie Helena. The coaching veteran brings decades of experience to the Braves, both as a coach and as an administrator. Before his time with the Brewers, he spent over a decade as the vice president of community relations with the Class AAA Memphis Redbirds. During his stint in Memphis, he showcased his broadcasting skills, working in radio and television. From 1991-1997, he served as a principal and teacher in the Memphis City School District. Williams is still heavily involved in educating students and teaches as an adjunct professor at the University of Memphis during the offseason.

JOSH HOBSON - Athletic Trainer, M.S., ATC, CES

Josh Hobson is in his ninth season as a full-time athletic trainer in the organization, his second at Double-A Chattanooga following one year at Advanced Class A Dayton. In 2022, he was named PBATS Minor League Athletic Trainer of the Year for the Florida State League. Josh spent the 2021 season working with the rookie Arizona Complex League Reds. He was slated to work at rookie league Billings in 2020 until the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the season. He spent the 2019 season at rookie Greeneville and 2018 at rookie Billings. In 2015, Josh completed an internship at Billings and in 2016 held a seasonal position at the Reds’ Dominican Republic training complex before holding a full-time position there in 2017. Josh graduated in 2015 from the University of Evansville with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training and in 2016 from the University of Akron with a master’s degree in sports administration. He resides in Courtland, KS.

TIM RODMAKER - Strength & Conditioning Coach, CSCS, RSCC

Tim Rodmaker is in his first season with the Reds after being a member of the Miami Marlins organization. Prior to joining the Marlins’ organization, he spent 15 seasons in the Chicago White Sox organization as a strength & conditioning coach. He most recently served in the same role with High-A Winston-Salem in 2021 (also 2013) and Double-A Birmingham from 2015-20. He also logged time with Low-A Kannapolis from 2007-09 and 2011-12 and Rookie-level Great Falls in both 2010 and 2014. An Indiana native, Rodmaker interned at DePaul University as its strength & conditioning room assistant before joining the White Sox.
