The Chattanooga Lookouts could not muster enough offense in their 7-4 loss to the Birmingham Barons. Chattanooga finished the 2023 regular season with a record of 70-67.
Lookouts starting pitcher Manuel Cachutt was dominant for the home team. The right-hander fired three perfect innings and struck out four batters. After he left the game Birmingham slugged a grand slam off of Pedro Garcia to take the lead. The Barons added two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth on an Alsander Womack home run.
In the eighth inning, the Lookouts ended the scoring drought on a sacrifice fly. A James Free double and a passed ball made it 8-3. The last run of thinning crossed home on a Mat Nelson RBI single.
On Tuesday the Lookouts will begin their hunt for their first Southern League Championship since 2017. The team will take on the Tennessee Smokies in game one of a three-game series. Chattanooga will play game two at home on a Thirsty Thursday at AT&T Field. The first 1,000 fans will receive a playoff rally towel courtesy of Hiller Plumbing, Heating, Cooling, and Electrical.
