Nola Solid in 4-2 Loss

Phillies Prospect Tosses 5 Innings in Finale at Bradenton
July 19, 2014

BRADENTON -- Aaron Nola allowed just two runs over five innings to the Bradenton Marauders on Saturday, but the Threshers suffered a 4-2 loss in the series finale.

Nola (1-3) was charged with the loss after surrendering just the two earned runs on five hits while striking out five.

The Phillies' 2014 first-round pick didn't walk a batter in the game, and has not issued a free pass in his last 19 innings. He has struck out 15 over the same span.

Chad Kuhl picked up the win for the Marauders (17-10). Kuhl (10-5) gave up a run on seven hits over six innings while striking out three and walking one. Kuhl is the first Florida State League pitcher to reach 10 wins in 2014.

The Threshers (11-17) fell behind 2-0 after two innings on an RBI groundout by Jose Osuna and Justin Maffei's solo homer. Maffei finished 3-for-3 with a single, double, home run and two RBI's.

Clearwater answered in the third inning after Chris Serritella doubled to lead off the frame, and Harold Martinez drove him in with an RBI single. Serritella went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored.

Reid Brignac and Carlos Ruiz each made another start on a rehab assignment. Brignac finished the game 2-for-3 with a single, double and a walk. Ruiz caught the first seven innings and went 1-for-4 at the plate.

Roman Quinn pulled the Threshers within two runs in the eighth inning after he crushed his third homer of the season well beyond the right-field wall.

That was as close as Clearwater would get, as the Threshers earned a split in the final series of the season against the Marauders.

The Threshers return to action on Sunday at Bright House Field against the Charlotte Stone Crabs with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Mark Leiter, Jr. gets the start for Clearwater while Jeremy Hellickson toes the rubber for Charlotte. Coverage begins at 12:45 p.m. on threshersbaseball.com
