Columbus Cruises to 6-2 Win Over Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, AL., — The Columbus Clingstones (14-19, 40-59) burst out to a 3-0 lead and breezed to a 6-2 win over the Montgomery Biscuits (15-18, 53-49) on Sunday afternoon at Riverwalk Stadium. Columbus lost the series 4-2.
Decisive Plays: An RBI single from E.J. Exposito opened the scoring for Columbus in the second inning. The Clingstones took a 2-0 lead on an RBI single from Patrick Clohisy. The lead ballooned to 3-0 on an RBI single from Ethan Workinger. Montgomery got on the board with a sacrifice fly from Cooper Kinney in the bottom of the third but Columbus extended its lead to 5-1 with an RBI double from Jim Jarvis and an RBI single from Lizandro Espinoza in the fourth. Another RBI from Jarvis in the sixth inning brought the lead to 6-1.
Key Contributors: Jarvis (2-for-5, 2B, 2 RBI), Clohisy (3-for-5, 2B, RBI), Espinoza (2-for-4, RBI) all had multi-hit efforts and produced runs for Columbus. Brett Sears (Win, 5.0 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO) recorded another strong start against Montgomery this season. For the Biscuits, Kinney had a two-RBI day to produce all the runs.
Notable: Columbus improves to 6-12 in series finales and has gone 4-2 on Sunday since July 1. Both Clohisy and Espinoza recorded their first career RBIs in Double-A. Sears improves to 2-0 with a 1.93 ERA or four starts against Montgomery this season.
