Missions Sweep Hooks

CORPUS CHRISTI - San Antonio scored two runs on a 10th-inning throwing error to defeat Corpus Christi 6-4 Tuesday at Whataburger Field before 3,839.

José Rondón (lead-off infield single) and Noah Perio (two-out intentional walk) tallied as a result of third baseman J.D. Davis' throwing error. Rondon reached scoring position on Nick Schulz's comebacker to Cy Sneed (1-3), which left first-base open. Franmil Reyes' infield hit off Jacob Dorris loaded the bases before Alberth Martinez rapped a bouncer to Davis.
Reyes' infield single scored Perio from third as San Antonio moved ahead 4-3 in the eighth. Perio's two-out single blossomed into major trouble for the Hooks when he advanced 180 feet on a Sneed wild pitch catcher Garrett Stubbs had difficulty locating. Reyes then beat out an infield single ahead of Davis' throw.
Corpus Christi (15-17) rallied in the ninth against Trey Wingenter (2-0) to force extra innings. Alejandro Garcia opened with a triple into the right-field corner and an out later Kristian Trompiz picked him by singling to right.
Thomas Dorminy (two strikeouts) and Adam Cimber, who earned his first save, shared pitching duties in the 10th for the Missions.
Five-foot-nine, 175-pound Bobby Boyd took Michael Kelly out of the yard on the second pitch of the home first. Boyd cranked a 94-mph offering just beyond the left-field berm railing.
San Antonio (18-14) answered with a pair off Brock Dykxhoorn. Perio singled and achieved scoring position when Reyes walked. Fernando Perez's single scored Perio, and Reyes ultimately crossed on a successful delayed double steal attempt.
Jon Singleton's fourth home run, a shot into the teeth of a 20 mile-an-hour wind off Corpus Christi Bay, evened the score.
His lead-off single in the fourth conveyed to Corpus Christi's third run when Singleton motored home on a two-out error by shortstop Luis Urías.
Dykxhoorn finished after five innings, five hits, a walk, and four strikeouts, his pitch count 75 (48 strikes). Sneed pitched a 1-2-3 seventh, but Perio and Reyes singled and doubled, respectively, to begin the seventh and tie the contest.
That took Kelly off the hook. The right-hander, who lasted six innings and 97 pitches (66), yielded two earned runs, a walk, and struck out five.
Corpus Christi, one-for-13 with runners in scoring position Tuesday, has lost eight straight; San Antonio owns seven consecutive victories.
The Hooks take Wednesday off before hosting Midland in a four-game series. Kyle Smith (0-1) takes the mound Thursday at 7:05 vs. Heath Fillmyer (0-2).
