RHP Simeon Woods Richardson (1-2) was seeking his first Advanced-A win in his third outing, and stifled Clearwater hitters with five scoreless, striking out five and retiring 14 of the final 15 hitters he faced. The lone hit given up by Woods Richardson was a first inning single to Daniel Brito .
The Blue Jays offense pushed across a run in the bottom of the first when Alejandro Kirk singled back up the middle to score Reggie Pruitt from second. Kirk smacked a double to left center, advanced to third on a fly-ball out off the bat of Demi Orimoloye , and scored on a wild pickoff throw by Rafael Marchan to make it 2-0 Dunedin.
The best chance to score for Clearwater came in the top of the eighth, but with the bases loaded, RHP Emerson Jimenez induced a fly-ball out off the bat Brito.
LHP Ethan Lindow started for Clearwater and although he pitched five innings, and gave up just one run, the 20 year old was tagged with the loss.
Game Two
The Blue Jays defeated the Clearwater Threshers by the final score of 8-3 in game two of the four game series on Tuesday night at Spectrum Field.
RHP Kyle Johnston (1-2) picked up his first win in a Dunedin uniform, and despite walking seven, made some big pitches on his way to the five inning performance.
Meanwhile, the Blue Jays offense scored runs in their first three plate appearances. In the top of the first Chavez Young extended his hitting streak to a career-best 13 games with a single to right-center to score Reggie Pruitt. In the second, Nick Podkul lifted a homer to over the wall in left center, and Ryan Noda drove in a run with a sacrifice fly in third to make it 3-0 Dunedin.
Clearwater tied the game in the bottom of the fourth. Ben Aklinski smashed a two-run homerun to left, and Dalton Guthrie scored later in the inning on a pass ball. The tie wouldn't last long as Ryan Noda drilled a two-run shot to right and knocking RHP Andrew Brown out of the game in the process. The Jays pushed across a run in the sixth, and in the eighth, Dunedin loaded the bases with no outs. Young smacked a single up the middle to drive in a run, and Noda registered his fourth RBI of the game with a sac-fly to give Dunedin the 8-3 lead.
RHPs Maverick Buffo and Kyle Weatherly tossed five scoreless in what was another solid outing by the Blue Jays bullpen
Game Three
RHP Maximo Castillo (9-5) came into his start tonight having not lost since June 25th, and the successful
stretch bled into his start tonight. Castillo threw 5.2 flawless innings to help guide Dunedin to the 6-0 victory at Spectrum Field on Wednesday night.
Castillo surrendered a walk to Simon Muzziotti to start the game, but went on to retire the next 11 hitters in a row and 17 of the final 18 batters he faced. On the offensive side of things, Dunedin plated two runs in the top of the first on Kacy Clemens two-run triple. In the top of the third, Ryan Noda and Demi Orimoloye drove in runs with back-to-back doubles to make it 4-0 Dunedin.
