The SeaWolves took down the Bowie Baysox, 3-2, on Saturday night in front of a packed house at UPMC Park.
The Baysox jumped ahead in the top of the second inning against Erie starter Beau Burrows. Aderlin Rodriguez led off with a double and moved to third on an Austin Hays base hit. Anderson Feliz singled home Rodriguez for a 1-0 lead.
The SeaWolves tied the game in the home half of the third against Baysox starter Bruce Zimmerman. Troy Montgomery led off with a walk and moved to second on a Cam Gibson sacrifice bunt. Montgomery got to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Danny Woodrow base hit to make it a 1-1 game.
Erie then took the lead in the fifth. With two outs, Montgomery walked and stole second base. Gibson followed and beat out an infield single and on a throwing error, Montgomery scored for a 2-1 advantage.
The 'Wolves added an insurance run in the ninth when Willi Castro connected on an opposite-field, solo home run off of Jay Flaa to make it a 3-1 game.
The Baysox made it interesting in the ninth inning against Erie reliever John Schreiber. Rodriguez led off with a single and got to second on an error. He scored on a one-out Feliz base hit to make it a one-run game at 3-2. With two outs, Schreiber hit a pair of batters to load the bases before inducing a game-ending groundout off the bat of Erick Salcedo to end the game, earning his 17th save.
Burrows (10-8) was superb for the SeaWolves in a quality start. He worked seven innings, allowing a run on six hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
Zimmerman (1-1) took the loss for Bowie allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits with three walks and two strikeouts in five innings.
