Greiner Homers but 'Wolves Fail to Hold Late Lead

The SeaWolves could not hold a late lead on Tuesday night at NYSEG Stadium, falling to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 8-3 to drop their third straight game.
Binghamton took the lead in the last of the third against Erie starter Tyler Alexander. With one out, Kevin Kaczmarki walked and Patrick Biondi singled. Luis Guillorme doubled home both baserunners for a 2-0 lead.
Erie responded in the fourth against Ponies starter Marcos Molina. Zack Cox led off with a single and Christin Stewart singled with one out to put the tying run on base. Steven Moya singled home Cox, making it a 2-1 game. Dawel Lugo followed with a groundout, plating Stewart, tying the game.
The SeaWolves then took the lead in the fifth as Grayson Greiner blasted a solo home run with one out for a 3-2 advantage. The home run for Greiner was his 14th.
Binghamton regained the lead in the seventh. Matt Oberste led off and sent a pop up to shallow right that dropped for a leadoff single. With one out, Tomás Nido singled to move Oberste into scoring position. Kevin Taylr doubled home Oberste, tying the game 3-3. Kaczmarski followed with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Nido for a 4-3 Ponies lead. Biondi then singled home Taylor for a 5-3 lead, sending Alexander out of the game. Matt Crouse entered and gave up an RBI single to Guillorme making it 6-3. After an L.J. Mazzilli walk, Peter Alonso tripled home a pair for an 8-3 lead.
Alexander (8-9) took the loss allowing six runs on seven hits with a walk and six strikeouts in 6.2 innings.
Molina (3-7) earned the win for the Ponies allowing three runs on six hits with no walks and seven strikeouts in seven innings.
The SeaWolves and Ponies meet in the third game of the series on Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. Righty Sandy Baez makes his Double-A debut for Erie against RHP Mickey Jannis (7-7, 3.77 ERA).
