Josh Lester and Jake Rogers put the SeaWolves on the board first in the second inning. Lester cranked a solo shot to right for his eighth homer of the season, and Rogers followed two at-bats later with his 10th bomb launced to left.
Richmond did not trail for long in game one of the doubleheader. Dylan Davis led off the bottom of the second with a single, and Aramis Garcia nailed a single right after. Jonah Arenado grounded into a 6-4-3 double play, but the Squirrels rallied with two outs. Breto issued a walk to John Polonius, and then Jeff Arnold doubled down the left field line to make it 2-2. Breto walked Lipka and Hinojosa consecutively, giving Ali Castillo the chance to take the lead on a two-run double to bring Richmond up 4-2.
Erie added another run in the fourth inning on a Jake Rogers groundout with the bases loaded to bring the SeaWolves within one at 4-3.
Richmond jumped further agead in the fifth inning on Liarvis Breto. Hinojosa and Castillo both doubled to lead off the inning, amounting in a run scored to get Breto out of the game. Sandy Baez entered for Erie and forced Ryan Howard to ground out to short, moving Castillo to third. Dylan Davis walked to put runners on the corners. With two outs, Davis baited Rogers to throw into a rundown, allowing Castillo to score to elevate Richmond up 6-3.
C.J. Hinojosa smacked another double bring Polonius in to score, ending the scoring efforts for Richmond to cap off a 7-3 game one of the doubleheader.
Jake McCasland (3-2) earned the win after hurling 5.1 IP, allowing three runs on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Breto (2-3) took the loss after allowing six runs on six hits and three walks through 4.1 IP, only amounting to two strikeouts.
