SeaWolves Win Fourth Straight

The SeaWolves edged the Akron RubberDucks 2-1 on Saturday night at UPMC Park, winning their fourth consecutive game.
Akron got out to a lead in the third inning against Erie starter Spencer Turnbull. Dorssys Paulino led off and was hit by a pitch. Luigi Rodriguez singled to push Paulino to third for Todd Hankins. Hankins grounded to short, plating Paulino for a 1-0 Ducks advantage.
Erie tied the game in the last of the fourth against Akron starter Matt Esparza. Mike Gerber led off and connected on a solo home run to right. It was his 12th of the season.
Akron threatened against Turnbull in the top of the seventh. Yu Chang led off with a double. He moved to third on a deep fly out to center, putting the go-ahead run at third base. Erie then summoned Kurt Spomer from the bullpen. Spomer got out of the jam striking out both Paulino and Rodriguez. Spomer has now allowed just two of 16 inherited runners to score on the season.
The game remained tied until the last of the seventh. Kody Eaves led off with a line drive, opposite field double off the wall in left. Eaves advanced to third on a one out groundout from pinch hitter Zack Cox. Harold Castro then lined an infield single off of Akron reliever Robbie Aviles, plating Eaves, giving Erie it's first lead of the ninth at 2-1.
Spomer worked a scoreless eighth and Mark Ecker worked a scoreless ninth, earning his second save in as many nights. Spomer (6-4) earned the win tossing 1.2 innings without allowing a hit. He walked one and struck out a pair.
Turnbull took the no-decision allowing a run on four this with two walks and seven strikeouts in 6.1 innings.
Aviles (6-4) took the loss for the Ducks allowing a run on two this with no walks and a strikeout in an inning of work.
The SeaWolves wrap up their home schedule on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 p.m. at UPMC Park. Cleveland Indians outfielder Lonnie Chisenhall is expected to play for Akron on a rehab assignment. RHP Beau Burrows (6-3, 4.54 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against RHP Shao-Ching Chiang (0-2, 6.65 ERA).

Fans can play catch in the outfield after the conclusion of tomorrow's game.
