Bowie, MD - The Bowie Baysox turned three double plays and outlasted the Flying Squirrels by a final of 4-2 in the series opener on Monday at Prince George's Stadium. Bowie (10-7) out-hit Richmond (12-6) by a tally of 10-7.
The Squirrels applied pressure right away against Bowie and starting RHP Mathew Grimes. A pair of walks and a base hit loaded the bases in the first inning before Grimes induced a pop up and double play to end the threat.
Richmond hit into three double plays through the first three innings of play on Monday.
Bowie quickly tied the game in the bottom of the second, doing so on a solo home run as well. Catcher
Grimes managed to maneuver through four innings in a spot start for the Baysox. The righty, making his first start of the season, allowed the one run on four hits. He walked three and struck out one on 64 pitches.
Both teams pushed across a run in the fifth inning for a 2-2 contest.
The Baysox tied the game in the bottom of the fifth by loading the bases for
Ysla moved through the Richmond lineup, tossing 3.2 innings to earn the win. The lefty allowed one run on three hits. Ysla (3-0) walked two and struck out three. Bowie grabbed the lead in the sixth, cashing in a leadoff triple from
Johnson (2-2) suffered the loss but pitched into the seventh for Richmond. The righty walked the first batter in the seventh and was removed in favor of

Orioles first baseman Mark Trumbo made the start at first base in a rehab appearance. Trumbo made his first rehab appearance on April 10 but was taken out due to his quad strain still being an issue.
Richmond plays Bowie 20 times this season. The Squirrels are 3-2 against Bowie this year.
Manager Willie Harris played for the Baysox in 2001. Willie hit .305 and stole 54 bases for manager Dave Machemer. Machemer also managed the Squirrels ('11-'13).
The Squirrels turned three double plays as well in the contest. Two on the ground and one on a tag.
Ysla, the winning pitcher, was once a member of the Giants system. He was traded to Boston for Alejandro de Aza.
