TinCaps ReCap: 'Caps Drop Series Opener to West Michigan

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Fort Wayne TinCaps faltered in Tuesday night’s series-opening 12-5 loss at Parkview Field to the West Michigan Whitecaps (Tigers affiliate).

Fort Wayne (45-56, 18-17) was led offensively by catcher Carlos Rodriguez, who collected his first four-hit game in High-A. Rodriguez went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and his sixth home run of the campaign, which came in the second inning. It was the first long ball for Rodriguez at Parkview Field since he left the yard on April 23 against Wisconsin.

First baseman Jack Costello launched his 13th round-tripper of the season and the 23rd of his TinCap career in the sixth frame. Costello ranks ninth in franchise history in home runs and has played in 197 games across the last two years.

West Michigan (44-57, 20-17) had five hitters in their order pick up multiple hits and scored six runs in the final three innings. Designated hitter Ricardo Hurtado drove in five runs on a pair of extra-base hits. He blasted a three-run homer, his seventh of the year in the fifth inning, and followed it up with a two-run double in the seventh.

Center fielder Woody Hadeen went 4-for-5 and scored three runs. It’s the second four-hit showing of the season for Hadeen, with his last being on Opening Day against Lake County.
