FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Grizzlies have announced Major League Baseball great Bill Buckner as the featured guest for Christian Fellowship Night on Friday, August 1st at Chukchansi Park. The Grizzlies will be playing the last of a four-game series against the Reno Aces, Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Gates will open for the general public at 6:05 p.m. (5:35 p.m. for season ticket holders).
Buckner, 64, will be tossing out the ceremonial first pitch for the Grizzlies and signing autographs along the concourse for fans. After postgame Friday Night Fireworks, presented by PG&E, the Vallejo, California native will address the crowd with a speech in the Tecate Cantina (located along the left field concourse).
A promotional special for August 1st is currently available in which groups of 15 or more receive a complimentary ticket to another August home game for each ticket purchased to Christian Fellowship Night. Interested groups are encouraged to call Adam Gleich at 559.320.2525.
The Chukchansi Park Box Office is located on the corner of H and Kern streets. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Box office will stay open through the seventh inning of each home game and is open this Saturday at 10:00 a.m. and Sunday at 12:00 p.m. Fans can also call the office at 559.320.TIXS for questions, inquiries, or to purchase tickets.
About Bill Buckner:
Bill Buckner played parts of 22 seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers (1969-76), Chicago Cubs (1977-84), Boston Red Sox (1984-87, '90), California Angels (1987-88) and Kansas City Royals (1988-89). During his professional career, Buckner accumulated 2,715 hits, won the National League Batting Title in 1980 (.324), and was the Cubs' sole representative in the 1981 All-Star Game.
Buckner was inducted into the Napa High School Hall of Fame in 1997 and the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Hall of Fame in 2010. He currently resides in Idaho where he works in real estate.
