Minor League Baseball has released it's top 25 in licensed merchandise sales for the 2016 calendar year, and the Fresno Grizzlies are included. The list represents the top merchandise sellers among the 160 MLB-affiliated clubs in U.S.-based leagues. With Triple-A Fresno and the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks (Texas League) in the top 25, the Houston Astros are one of just five MLB organizations to have two of their affiliates on the list.
The Top 25 list includes (alphabetically, with Major League affiliate): Charlotte Knights (White Sox), Columbia Fireflies (Mets), Columbus Clippers (Indians), Corpus Christi Hooks (Astros), Dayton Dragons (Reds), Durham Bulls (Rays), El Paso Chihuahuas (Padres), Fresno Grizzlies (Astros), Frisco RoughRiders (Rangers), Indianapolis Indians (Pirates), Iowa Cubs, Lake Elsinore Storm (Padres), Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Phillies), Louisville Bats (Reds), Nashville Sounds (Athletics), Oklahoma City Dodgers, Omaha Storm Chasers (Royals), Portland SeaDogs (Red Sox), Richmond Flying Squirrels (Giants), Sacramento River Cats (Giants), Salt Lake Bees (Angels), South Bend Cubs, Tacoma Rainiers (Mariners), Toledo Mud Hens (Tigers) and Trenton Thunder (Yankees).
The Fresno Grizzlies/Fresno Tacos are one of 16 Triple-A organizations in the top 25, and one of nine clubs in the Pacific Coast League to make the list.
"Since we began the 'Growlifornia' campaign in 2015, we've seen the Fresno Grizzlies and Fresno Tacos brands grow exponentially, in large part to the support of our great fans," said General Manager Derek Franks. "Not only are the brands popular here in the Central Valley, but we've also shipped Fresno Tacos merchandise to all 50 states, and several countries. We are certainly thrilled to have cracked the top 25 in Minor League Baseball merchandise sales; it speaks volumes to how much the Grizzlies brand resonates as cutting edge and cool, and how great our authentic merchandise looks on the field of play. It is truly an honor to stand beside 24 other top-level organizations."
The $68.3 million total in 2016 merchandise sales from all 160 clubs combined marks a 5.06 percent increase over 2015's total of $65.1 million, which had been the highest total recorded since Minor League Baseball's licensing program began in 1992. The numbers are based on total licensed merchandise sales from January 1 - December 31, 2016.
The Fresno Grizzlies (and Tacos) set an all-time franchise merchandise sales record in 2015, and then topped that mark in 2016. The front office expects to continue to break that record in the 2017 calendar year.
