May 12, 2014

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Grizzlies, Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, will be giving away 1954 New York Giants World Series Championship Replica Rings, presented by Fresno Coin Gallery, to the first 7,000 fans through the Chukchansi Park gates on Saturday, May 17. The giveaway night will feature the Grizzlies taking on the Albuquerque Isotopes, Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, at 7:05 p.m.

Authentic 1954, 2010 and 2012 Giants World Series Championship Rings are currently on display in the Fresno Coin Gallery Showroom located at 4646 North Blackstone Avenue.

Both Albuquerque and Fresno will be wearing 1954-inspired throwback jerseys designed by the Fresno Grizzlies Marketing Department for Saturday's game. The Albuquerque Isotopes will be outfitted in Brooklyn Dodgers jerseys, while the Grizzlies will wear the New York Giants throwbacks. All game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off at Chukchansi Park directly after the game.

The Fresno Grizzlies will also be honoring Jackie Robinson, who played for the Brooklyn Dodgers from 1947-1956, by placing the retired number 42 on the outfield wall in center field.

Gates on May 17th will open to the general public at 5:35 p.m. The giveaway will be available at all Chukchansi Park gates (see additional notes) until supplies last. One line will form at each individual gate and be structured by barricades beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Fans can still guarantee themselves the 1954 Replica Ring and every other 2014 giveaway by becoming season ticket holders for as little as $288 per seat. Call 559.320.TIXS for more information.

The Chukchansi Box Office (1800 Tulare Street) is open 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, and will open at 10:00 a.m. this Saturday. Fans can also purchase tickets online at FresnoGrizzlies.com.

·       Gate entrances for the general public are as follows: Gate 1 (H Street and Tulare), Gate 2 (H Street and Kern), Gate 3 (H Street and Inyo) and Gate 6 (Fulton Mall/Home Run Alley)

·       Fans arriving early are encouraged to park in the H Street Lot by accessing it from G Street.

·       Portable bathrooms will be staged near Gate 3

·       The Grizzlies encourage those fans planning to camp out prior to the giveaway to hold off until 11:00 p.m. Friday, May 16 in order to avoid crowding and congestion for that night's 7:05 p.m. game.

Throwback Tidbits:

In 1954, the New York Giants swept the Cleveland Indians in the World Series to secure their fifth championship in franchise history. Hall-of-Famer Willie Mays made perhaps the most historical catch in baseball history in the eighth inning of Game One, making an over-the-shoulder grab of a 460-foot blast off the bat of the Indians' Vic Wertz in a 2-2 tie with two runners on base. The Giants went on to win 5-2 when Dusty Rhodes hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the 10th inning. The Giants won the next three games to secure a four-game sweep, giving them their final World Series Championship in the city of New York.

Jackie Robinson made history by becoming the first African-American to play in Major League Baseball in the modern era. In his decade-long career with the Dodgers, Robinson and his team won the National League pennant six times and a World Series Championship once (1955).
