Denton dazzles but Yard Goats fall to the Rumble Ponies

BINGHAMTON, NY- Cade Denton turned in one of his strongest outings of the season and Braylen Wimmer homered, but it wasn't enough, as the Hartford Yard Goats fell to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies Wednesday night, 3-1, at Mirabito Stadium. Binghamton has won the first two games of the six-game series.

Sam Weatherly, normally a relief pitcher, made only his third start of the season for the Yard Goats and surrendered a first-inning run on an RBI-single by Emilien Pitre. The Mets affiliate added two runs in the second on a two-run home run over the center field fence by Kevin Parada, his first of the season. Meanwhile, R.J. Gordon worked around base runners in four of the six innings he pitched for Binghamton, but managed to get nicked for just one run, the homer by Wimmer in the fourth inning, his third of the season. Gordon struck out a season-high ten batters.

Weatherly pitched two innings for Hartford, allowing three runs on four hits. Denton, the Rockies sixth round pick out of Oral Roberts in 2023, entered in the third inning and kept Hartford in the game, tossing five scoreless innings and permitting one hit. The right hander struck out five and did not walk a batter. However, Binghamton's pitching was equally tough, thanks to the four-Gs. Carlos Guzman, Brendan Girton and Saul Garcia followed Gordon and allowed one base runner, a single by Roc Riggio. The Yard Goats managed four hits; the Wimmer home run and singles by Riggio, Dyan Jorge and GJ Hill.

Game three of the series is Thursday night at 6:07 PM. The game will be broadcast on the free Audacy App, iHeartRadio app, Yard Goats website and streamed on MiLB.TV. The Yard Goats return to Dunkin' Park on August 11th to face the Detroit Tigers affiliate, the Erie SeaWolves.
