Fightins Walk-Off Yard Goats with Homer in 10th

Reading, PA- Austin Murr cranked a two-run walk-off in the bottom of the 10^th inning leading the Reading Fighting Phils to a 3-2 victory over the Hartford Yard Goats on Thursday evening at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pennsylvania. The homer came with the Fightins trailing the Yard Goats 2-1 in extra innings, and helped Reading defeat Hartford for the second straight game. Yard Goats starting pitcher Jake Brooks recorded 11 strikeouts in six innings of work. The right hander has 20 strikeouts over his first two starts of the season.

The Yard Goats scored the first run of the game in the first inning off Reading starting pitcher Adam Seminaris. Dyan Jorge opened the game with a leadoff single and scored on an infield grounder by Aiden Longwell. Hartford, which stranded 10 men, had several chances to add to its lead, including a bases loaded no out situation in the second inning and failed to score.

Hartford starter Jake Brooks had another solid outing and struck out five consecutive batters over the first two frames. He retired ten in a row, and 14 of 15 batters from the first through fifth innings before yielding a game tying homer to veteran Alex Binelas. The righty recorded his season-high 11 strikeout to end the sixth inning.

The Yard Goats took a 2-1 lead on Roc Riggio’s two-out double in the 10^th inning, scoring Jose Torres from third base. Hartford had the bases loaded in the inning but could not push another run across. Austin Murr answered for Reading in the bottom of the inning, and smashed a two run homer over the right field fence off reliever Victor Juarez for the 3-2 win.

The Yard Goats continue their six-game road trip on Friday evening (6:45 PM) in Reading, PA. LHP Konner Eaton will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Kyle Brnovich will start for Reading. The game will be broadcast on the free Audacy App, iHeartRadio app, Yard Goats website and streamed on MiLB.TV.
