Binghamton, NY- Hartford outfielder GJ Hill extended his hit streak to five consecutive games and eight of nine, however, the Yard Goats lost to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 23-3 on Thursday night at Mirabito Stadium in Binghamton, New York. The Mets affiliate cranked four homers including a pair of three-run shots as part of an eight run third inning while setting a new franchise record for runs. Mitch Voit had five hits and Billy Amick belted two homers and had 6 RBI as the Rumble Ponies defeated the Yard Goats for the third time this week. Hill had two hits for the Yard Goats and Mike Antico hit a solo home run. The road trip continued tomorrow night at 7:00 PM and the Yard Goats return home next Tuesday to host the Detroit Tigers affiliate, the Erie Seawolves at Dunkin’ Park.
The Yard Goats loaded the bases in the first inning with nobody out against Binghamton starter Gary Gill Hill, but he worked out of the jam and set the tone for the game as Hartford failed to score.
Binghamton opened their big offensive night in the first inning on a two out single by Chris Suero against Yard Goats starter Konner Eaton to take a 1-0 lead.
It was a 1-0 game going to the bottom of the third when the Rumble Ponies scored eight runs to take over the contest. Yohairo Cuevas led off with a double and scored on a single by Mitch Voit to make it a 2-0 game. The next two batters reached on catcher’s interference and a walk and Billy Amick cracked a three-run homer, one of two on the night, to give Binghamton a 6-0 lead. After a single and walk, JT Benson smashed a three-run homer and it was 9-0.
The Rumble Ponies hit two more homers in the fourth inning as Billy Amick hit his second of the game and Cory Collins contributed with a two-run shot to make it 13-0.
Binghamton added three runs in the fifth, two in the sixth, one if the seventh and three more in the eighth to set a franchise record for runs. Every player in the Rumble Ponies lineup had at least one hit.
The Yard Goats scored a pair of runs in the eighth inning on Roc Riggio’s two-run single, scoring GJ Hill and Andy Perez. Mike Antico cranked a solo home run in the ninth.
The Yard Goats continue the road trip on Friday night (7:00 PM) against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies at Mirabito Stadium in Binghamton, New York. LHP Stu Flesland III will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Noah Hall will start for the Mets affiliate. The game will be broadcast on the free Audacy App, iHeartRadio app, Yard Goats website and streamed on MiLB.TV. The Yard Goats return home Tuesday, July 28th (7:05 PM) to start a six-game homestand against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats at Dunkin’ Park.
