Hartford, CT- The Somerset Patriots swept the Hartford Yard Goats in a doubleheader on Wednesday night at Dunkin' Donuts Park. Yankees right-hander Luis Severino started for Somerset on a MLB rehab assignment and pitched four innings, allowed two runs on a Grant Lavigne home run, and struck out four batters in a 6-2 win. Yoendrys Gomez and Steven Jennings combined on a 7-inning no-hitter and Somerset 5-0 victory in game 2.

In game one, Somerset got an early lead as Andres Chaparro cranked a three-run homer off Hartford starter Mitch Kilkenny in the first inning.

The Yard Goats answered in the bottom half of the inning off Yankees pitcher Luis Severino on MLB rehab. Hunter Stovall singled and Grant Lavigne followed with a two-run homer into the second deck in right center field, making it a 3-2 game. Aaron Schunk and Brenton Doyle would also have hits against the longest tenured Yankee before he retired the final 10 batters faced. Severino left with a 5-2 lead after four innings.

In game two, Somerset scored three runs in the fourth inning off Hartford starter Will Ethridge. Rodolfo Duran belted a two-run homer and later in the inning Max Burt added a solo blast, giving the Patriots a 3-0 lead. Somerset scored two runs in the fifth inning on a pair of RBI doubles by Jesus Bastidas and Eric Wagaman to make it 5-0.

Yoendrys Gomez started for the Patriots and fired five shutout innings, retiring 15 of 16 batters faced, with the only base runner a two-out walk to Grant Lavigne. Gomez struck out five batters and left with a 5-0 lead. Steven Jennings finished the jem retiring all six batters faced in the final two innings.

The Yard Goats and Patriots will play the third of a six-game series on Thursday night. Noel Gotsis will start for the Yard Goats and Randy Vasquez will pitch for the Patriots. The broadcast can be heard on AM 1410, 100.9 FM and the iheart radio app.
