Yard Goats Drop Hammer on Fightins in 9-0 Win

Hartford, CT- The Yard Goats blasted three homers and got a great start from Stu Flesland III, and defeated the Reading Fightin Phils 9-0 in front of 7,055 fans on Saturday night at Dunkin’ Park. Flesland III fired 6.2 scoreless innings and recorded seven strikeouts to earn his 5^th win of the season. Kyle Karros hit a solo home run during his MLB rehab assignment with Colorado, Jared Thomas cranked a three-run shot, and Cole Messina added a two-run homer helping the Yard Goats beat Reading for the second straight game. The final home game of the regular season is Sunday at 1:10 PM.

The Yard Goats scored the first run two batters into the game. Colorado Rockies 3B Kyle Karros belted a line drive home run into the left field seats against Reading starter Adam Seminaris giving Hartford a 1-0 lead.

In the third inning, the Yard Goats put together a two-out rally to take a 4-0 lead. Jacob Humphrey got things going with a two-out bunt single followed by a double by Braylen Wimmer. Jared Thomas followed with a three-run homer lifting Hartford to a 4-0 edge.

Yard Goats starting pitcher Stu Flesland III was impressive again while winning his fifth game of the season. He retired the side in order twice, and sat down 12 of 15 batters from the first through sixth innings. The lefty went 6.2 shutout innings, allowing five hits, two walks and seven strikeouts.

The Yard Goats added three runs in the fifth inning to make it a 7-0 game. Jared Thomas and Dyan Jorge each had RBI singles and Tevin Tucker walked with the bases loaded. Cole Messina put the finishing touches on the victory with a two-run homer in the eighth.

The Yard Goats conclude the homestand on Sunday afternoon (1:10 PM) against the Reading Fightin Phils. LHP Sam Weatherly will start for the Yard Goats and RHP Braydon Tucker will start for the Fightins.
