Reading, PA- The Fightin Phils managed to score two runs in the rain before the umpires called for the tarp in the fifth inning, and Reading defeated Hartford 2-1 in a rain-shortened five inning game on Friday evening at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading, Pennsylvania. The Yard Goats had a 1-0 lead heading into the fifth inning as Taylor Snyder belted his team-leading eighth home run over the right field fence. The Yard Goats were denied their fourth win in six games.

The game was scoreless over the first three innings. The Yard Goats scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning as Taylor Snyder blasted a two out solo home run, his third homer of the road trip. The Hartford shortstop is 10 for 14 with 3 homers, 5 runs scored, and 9 RBI in the first four games in Reading and has hit safely in eight consecutive games.

Hartford starting pitcher Frank Duncan worked around a bases loaded one-out situation in the first inning and stranded two more runners in the fourth. Reading starter Colton Eastman retired all six batters faced but was removed from the game with an injury after throwing a few warmup pitches in the third.

The Fightins opened the rainy fifth inning with back-to-back singles from Daniel Brito and Bryson Stott putting runners at the corners. Matt Vierling followed with an RBI single, scoring Brito and tying the game 1-1. The next batter Madison Stokes hit a sacrifice fly to center field and Stott scored to give Reading a 2-1 lead. Duncan hit the next batter before walking Arquimedes Gamboa and the umpires called for the tarp. After waiting 37 minutes the game was called, giving Reading a 2-1 5 inning victory.
