Boise, ID: The Boise Hawks have scored 35 runs in their past four games. However, five against Tri-CIty on Wednesday night was not enough to take down the Tri-City Dust Devils.
For the third straight game, the Hawks trailed after the top of the 1st inning. This time, it was double from what they trailed by the night before. It was 4-0 Tri-City after a half of an inning. But that didn't last long.
Boise fired back with five runs in the 2nd inning with four of them coming from catcher Hidekel Gonzalez on a grand slam to take the lead 5-4. For Gonzalez, it was his third game with the Hawks on the season after coming up from Grand Junction. He hit two home runs with GJ but this was his first as a Boise Hawk.
That did not last long, however. Tri-City kept up their hot offensive stretch by scoring one run in the 3rd and three runs in the 4th. Hawks starter Keinter Olivares only lasted three innings, then left hander John Valek came in relief. Valek was recently moved to the bullpen after being in the rotation for much of the first half.
Neither team would score again after the Dust Devils had their three run 4th inning. Valek took his fourth loss of the season, while Tri-City starter Ben Sheckler picked up his first win of the year.
It was a tough loss for Boise, especially that Eugene and Hillsboro both won their games. That means that Boise will now be one game back of the division lead. Boise will now head to Everett to start a five game series against the AquaSox that will be crucial if the Hawks want to win the first half.
