Instead, they have dropped back-to-back games to the Everett AquaSox, a team that has already been eliminated from first half playoff contention. Much like Thursday night, the Hawks got off to a hot start with the bats with four runs in four innings. But every time they scored, the AquaSox had an answer.
When Boise scored a run in the 2nd inning off of a Ryan Metzler solo home run, Everett answered with three of their own in the bottom of the inning. The AquaSox have played some of their best baseball of the season in the past two games.
For the Hawks, it has been some of their most inconsistent. Boise needed every win that they could get coming into this series behind Hillsboro and Eugene in the division. Now for Boise, they need to win the rest of their games of the first half and need Hillsboro and Eugene to lose their own.
Hawks rookie Garrett Schilling took the first loss of his pro career in his fourth career start. He is now 0-1. Anjul Hernandez picked up the win for Everett even though he gave up four runs in five innings of work. The Hawks were held scoreless from the 5th inning-on and could not solve the Everett bullpen of Paul Covelle, Matt Clancy, and Michael Rivera.
The Hawks will look to rebound tomorrow against Everett at 8:05 p.m. MT. Boise will turn to right hander Ryan Luna to shut Everett down after the Frogs have scored 23 runs in the past two games. The Hawks also need to win to stay in the division race.
