Hickory, NC- The Hickory Crawdads earned a doubleheader split against the Jersey Shore BlueClaws (4-3) on Friday night at LP Frans Stadium on Friday night. The Crawdads fell 4-0 in the opener before using a three-run first inning to race out to a 5-0 win in the nightcap, as Winston Santos earned his first victory of 2024.

In game two of the doubleheader, Tucker Mitchell doubled down the left field line to score Cam Cauley, who opened the game with a leadoff infield single, to seize a 1-0 lead from Jersey Shore just two batters into the contest.

Four batters later, Quincy Scott doubled home Mitchell and Yeison Morrobel to extend the Hickory lead to 3-0 before Santos returned to the mound for inning number two.

In the third, Sebastian Walcott sent a twisting line drive to right field, going all the way to the wall. The 18-year-old from the Bahamas turned on the jets, cruising into third with a triple. He would later score to give the Crawdads a 4-0 advantage.

In the fourth, Konner Piotto drove home Ben Blackwell with a sac fly to right to close out the scoring for Hickory.

From there, Santos and Seth Clark would shut the door on the BlueClaws, securing the club's second shutout in three days.

The Crawdads (2-5) will return to action tomorrow at 7pm against Jersey Shore. The ‘Dads will take on their Latin-inspired identities, the Llamas de Hickory, thanks to the Greater Hickory International Council. It is also a Llamas soccer jersey giveaway to the first 1,000 fans thanks to Pepsi.
