‘Dads Rally in 8th in 10-6 Win

Hickory, NC- The Crawdads came out on top 10-6 in a back-and-forth series opener against the Greenville Drive on Tuesday night.

The ‘Dads jumped ahead with a run in the first. Aaron Zavala and Thomas Saggese hit one out singles to put two runners aboard. A wild pitch allowed Zavala to take third. Trevor Hauver drove him in with a sacrifice fly to center.

On the mound for the ‘Dads Ricky Vanasco was lights out, allowing just one hit and no runs. He struck out six batters. The Drive got a run across off Juan Mejia in the fifth to tie the game at one each.

The Crawdads didn’t stay down for long, rallying for two runs in the bottom of the inning. Cody Freeman singled on a ball deflected by the pitcher. Zavala singled to give them runners on first and second. Saggese delivered a double to center field that brought Freeman and Zavala around to score.

They built on their momentum in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three more runs. Keyber Rodriguez hit his first homerun of the season for the inning’s first run. Jake Guenther kept things going with a single to right. Freeman homered to left to cap off the inning’s scoring.

Greenville erased the Crawdads’ lead in the seventh, scoring five runs to even the score at 6.

The Crawdads jumped back ahead in the bottom of the eighth with four runs. Chris Seise drew a walk and advanced as Guenther was hit by a pitch. Freeman singled in Seise to break the tie. Evan Carter cleared the bases with a two-run triple. Carter scored the Crawdads’ final run on a wild pitch to bring the score to 10-6.

The series will continue tomorrow evening at 7pm. It is Pirate Party and fans can dress like a pirate for a discounted $6 ticket. It is also the first Kids Win Wednesday, presented by Arby’s, of the season and kids 12 and under can get a free ticket, meal voucher, and voucher for the bounce house, speed pitch, and carousel.
