Zavala Homers Twice in 7-5 Win

Crawdads Pull Ahead in Series vs Greensboro

Hickory, NC- The Crawdads recorded twelve hits as they beat the Greensboro Grasshoppers 7-5 on Saturday evening. The ‘Dads took an early lead, getting three runs in the first. Aaron Zavala led off with a homerun to right. Evan Carter and Luisangel Acuña followed up with singles to put runners

*Hickory, NC- *The Crawdads recorded twelve hits as they beat the Greensboro Grasshoppers 7-5 on Saturday evening.

The ‘Dads took an early lead, getting three runs in the first. Aaron Zavala led off with a homerun to right. Evan Carter and Luisangel Acuña followed up with singles to put runners on the corners. Acuña got himself in scoring position with his first steal of the season. Trevor Hauver drove both baserunners in with a single to left.

Greensboro managed to get a run across in the second and one in the third to make it a 3-2 game.

The Crawdads added a run in the fifth as Aaron Zavala hit his second homerun of the night.

Crawdads’ starting pitcher Owen White wrapped up his night after the fifth, allowing two runs and striking out seven. He gave up seven hits and walked two.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Crawdads put up another three runs to pull ahead 7-2. Thomas Saggese and Keyber Rodriguez hit back-to-back doubles for the inning’s first run. Angel Aponte singled to left to send Rodriguez to third. Evan Carter doubled in both runners.

Eudrys Manon allowed Greensboro to get three runs across in the seventh to bring the score to 7-5. Manon pitched 1.1 innings allowing the three runs. Spencer Mraz recorded five outs, giving up one hit. Destin Dotson pitched the ninth, getting all three outs on strikeouts. He picked up his first save with the ‘Dads.

Five Crawdads had multi-hit games. After reaching on two singles and a walk, Acuña stole three bases in the victory.

The homestand will conclude tomorrow afternoon with a Bark in the Park where dogs can get in free thanks to 3 Labs Property Inspection and WNNC. Sunday is Church Bulletin Sunday presented by Catawba Shoe Store. Fans can bring a church bulletin to receive a discounted $6 ticket. The ‘Dads will then donate $4 back to the bulletin’s respective church. It is also YMCA day and Y members can get two free tickets with their card.
