Giesting Solid Again, Hops Win Eighth of Last Nine 

Two games remain in 2023 season

Hillsboro, OR (September 8, 2023) – Spencer Giesting entered Friday night’s game at Ron Tonkin Field by winning his last four starts. Giesting turned in his seventh quality start in his last nine games by pitching 6.2 innings and allowing just one run, in the 7-1 Hops win over Spokane.

Giesting turned in his seventh quality start in his last nine games by pitching 6.2 innings and allowing just one run, in the 7-1 Hops win over Spokane. Juan Corniel extended his hit streak to seven games as the Hops won their eighth game in their last nine tries.

The Hops would again get an early lead in game four of the series with three hits and three runs in the second against Mason Green. Wilderd Patiño ripped a double down the left field line to score two runs and Jack Hurley had an RBI single for the second consecutive game, making it 3-0 Hillsboro.

Giesting struck out the first two batters of the third, before allowing four straight base runners. Parker Kelly drove home a run on a RBI infield single, bringing the Indians to within two.

Hillsboro again put up a three spot in the fifth, scoring a run on a wild pitch and two more on a two-RBI single by Jean Walters. Walters wasn’t done there, picking up another RBI single in the 7th, extending the Hops lead to 7-1.

Despite walking five batters in the game, Spencer Giesting allowed just one earned run. He gave way to Peniel Otaño after throwing his 100th pitch of the game. Otaño continued his solid pitching by retiring all four batters he faced.

Matthew Linksey struck out two batters in a clean ninth inning during his High-A debut, securing the 7-1 Hops’ win.

Hillsboro and Spokane will play game five of the series tomorrow at Ron Tonkin Field with the pregame show at 3:50 and first pitch at 4:05 on Rip City Radio 620.
