Hillsboro, OR (August 14, 2022) - Chad Patrick made his first appearance as a Hop on his 24th Birthday and was brilliant. Patrick struck out seven and allowed no earned runs over four innings. The Hops tossed their fifth one-hitter in team history, with the only Spokane hit coming in the second inning on a bloop single by Colin Simpson. Avery Short and Justin Martinez both had hitless outings out of the bullpen, in the 5-1 Hillsboro win.

The Hops got to Mason Green early in his sixth High-A start, scoring three in the first and two in the second. Coursey and Lawlar both walked to start the first inning, sending A.J. Vukovich to the dish with nobody out. Vukovich hit an opposite field two-RBI double, his fourth of the series, giving the Hops an early lead.

The first three runners reached base for Spokane in the second, scoring their first run of the game on a sacrifice bunt and throwing error by Patrick. Patrick worked around the run and ended up striking out the side.

Coursey and Lawlar once again had the same outcome in their at-bats, as both singled in the second. Deyvison De Los Santos hit a two-out, two-run double to the right-center gap, scoring Coursey and Lawlar. Green was chased from the game after just two innings and trailing 5-1.

Chad Patrick, a fourth-round pick in 2021 from Division II, Purdue Northwest, was called up from Visalia on August 9th. He made his Hillsboro debut today on his birthday and allowed just one hit, while striking out seven.

Both bullpens were fantastic in the game. For Spokane, Boby Johnson pitched four innings while allowing just one hit and striking out five, with Adam McKillican also throwing two scoreless innings.

Avery Short pitched two, no-hit innings of relief for Hillsboro, with Justin Martinez finishing the final three innings without allowing a hit. The combined one-hitter is the fifth time in franchise history that the Hops have allowed one-hit in a game. The last time the Hops reached the feat was 5/6/22 at Eugene, when Carver, Frias, Saalfrank and Fuenmayor combined to allow one hit in a 1-0 loss. Before that, the last time was 9/4/19, in a 2-1 Playoff victory over Salem-Keizer.

All four hitters in the top of the order for the Hops reached base two or more times in the game, with Cam Coursey reaching base three times, including a triple.

Hillsboro and Eugene will open a six-game series at Ron Tonkin Field on Tuesday. The pre-game show will start at 6:50 with first pitch at 7:05, on Rip City Radio 620 and MiLB.tv.
