Hillsboro, OR (June 8, 2023) – Yanquiel Fernandez continued his scorching hot hitting against the Hops in game two of the series at Ron Tonkin Field by hitting a three-run home run in the 10-4 Spokane win. Fernandez now has 11 extra-base hits in nine games against Hillsboro this season, with six home runs. His 16 home runs lead the Northwest League.

After struggling the first time around against of the best offenses in Minor League Baseball, Dylan Ray faced the Indians again on Thursday. It was more of the same story, as he gave up six earned runs over 3.2 innings.

Spokane scored two runs in the first on a Sterlin Thompson RBI single and Ray wild pitch. The RBI for Thompson was his 25th of the season, giving his squad a 2-0 lead.

Ray got through the second and third without trouble, but wouldn’t complete the fourth. Nic Kent had a two-RBI single that was deflected off Ray and then Braiden Ward doubled home a pair off Will Mabrey. A throwing error by J.J. D’Orazio scored Ward, giving Spokane a 7-0 advantage.

Jarrod Cande made his eighth start of the season for Spokane and breezed through the first four frames against the Hops. Hillsboro scored a pair off Cande in both the fifth and sixth, bringing them to within three. Wilderd Patino had a two-RBI single, one of three hits in the game and J.J. D’Orazio tripled, making it 7-4.

Once again, the Indians immediately answered in the next half inning, scoring three runs on another Yanquiel Fernandez home run. Fernandez golfed a 2-2 pitch from Peniel Otano off the netting in right field, giving him 45 total bases against Hillsboro this season.

The 10-4 lead would stand through the eighth and ninth, giving Spokane their third consecutive win.

Wilderd Patino had a three-hit performance while adding a pair of RBI for the Hops, with Kevin Graham and J.J. D’Orazio also having two-hit games.

Game four of the series is another matinee at Ron Tonkin Field, with the pregame show starting at 12:50 and first pitch at 1:05 on Rip City Radio 620 and Bally Live.
