Hillsboro, OR (September 6, 2023) – The Hops entered Wednesday’s game against Spokane at Ron Tonkin Field looking to extend their winning streak to a season-high seven games. The Indians had other plans, snapping the Hillsboro streak with a 4-2 win. Braiden Ward and Ronaiker Palma each had two hit and two RBI in the Indians' win.
It was a pitcher’s duel through the first four innings, as both starters breezed through the early innings. Joe Elbis had a no-hitter working into the fifth inning with two-outs, before the Indians rattled off three straight hits. Ronaiker Palma singled home a run and Braiden Ward hit his tenth double of the season to the opposite field, scoring two more runs, making it 3-0.
Blake Adams started the game and pitched very well for Spokane, allowing just two hits and no runs over four innings.
The Hops answered the three runs with two of their own off Keegan James in the fifth. A single by Juan Corniel and sac fly by Andrew Pintar brought the Hops to within one, 3-2.
Ronaiker Palma had another RBI hit in the seventh against Joe Elbis, this time, a solo home run. Palma had 221 at-bats in 2023 without a home run prior to that swing. Elbis worked into the seventh inning and later exited the game after 6.2 innings and four earned runs. Spokane took a 4-2 lead to the eighth.
The Hops went quietly in both the eighth and ninth without a threat, snapping their win streak at six games and falling 4-2 to the Spokane Indians. Luis Amoroso recorded the save, his second of the season, in a one-two-three ninth.
Game three of the series will be on Thursday, with first pitch at 6:35 and the pregame show at 6:20 on Rip City Radio 620 and Bally Live.
