FORT WORTH -- Texas League President Tim Purpura announced Tuesday that Hooks right-hander Akeem Bostick is the final Texas League Pitcher of the Week for 2017.

Bostick, a 6-foot-6, 215-pound, 22-year-old from Florence, South Carolina, posted back-to-back wins in season-long starts. He pitched seven innings of Corpus Christi's 8-5 triumph at Frisco last Tuesday. Bostick allowed three earned runs and recorded five strikeouts against no walks while breaking a five-start losing streak.
During Monday's Whataburger Field season finale with San Antonio, he worked 7 2/3 shutout frames and was responsible for seven hits, seven strikeouts, and no walks as Corpus Christi blanked the Missions 2-0.
Bostick made his Hooks debut on April 29 at home vs. the RoughRiders after four appearances at High-A Buies Creek of the Carolina League. He finished the campaign 6-6 at Corpus Christi and 8-7 overall. In five professional seasons, Bostick's record is 32-23.
He was acquired by the Houston Astros in exchange for catcher Carlos Corporán on January 21, 2015. A second-round selection of the Rangers in 2013, Bostick chose professional baseball over a two-sport (baseball/football) college career at Georgia Southern.
Tulsa outfielder Kyle Garlick is the league's Player of the Week.
