Expanded and Improved Finish for 10th Annual CTC

Fast Finish & Hurricane Alley Waterpark New for 2013
June 25, 2013

CORPUS CHRISTI - It's not how you start, but how you finish.

That statement couldn't ring truer for all riders in this year's 10th Annual Conquer the Coast. Those who participate in any of the three courses (65-mile, 25-mile & 10-mile) finish at a new location on Port Avenue outside Whataburger Field and enjoy an expanded post-race party including Hurricane Alley Waterpark.

Conquer the Coast, South Texas' premiere cycling event, returns for its 10th year on Saturday, September 21. The event, put on by the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce, has grown steadily each fall with a record 1,461 cyclists taking part last year.

"One of the complaints we've heard from some of our more experienced riders is that the turn at the finish was dangerous for those coming in fast," 2013 Co-Chair Joe Steele said. "By moving the finish to the corner of Port Avenue and Tancahua we have eliminated that danger."

The addition of Hurricane Alley to Whataburger Field makes the post-party area even larger.

"We have tried to add value to the event each year and this year is no different," Co-Chair Stephen Rybak added. "We all know that it can still be a little hot in South Texas at the end of September, being able to cool off after the ride will be a great experience for all the riders."

"Hurricane Alley is thrilled to partner with the Hooks and Conquer the Coast," stated Jim Kunau, General Manager. "This event is a huge fundraiser and we're glad to be part of the cool down afterwards. The riders and their families should have a great time. We're very excited!"

The 10-mile cruise, 25-mile ride and 65-mile ride all start and end at Whataburger Field. The 65-mile version leads cyclists over the Harbor Bridge - 138 feet high overlooking the Port of Corpus Christi - to Portland, through Ingleside, Aransas Pass and to Port Aransas on the Port A Ferry. The route continues through Upper Padre Island to breathtaking views of Ocean Drive and Corpus Christi Bay and back to Whataburger Field.

The 10-mile cruise and 25-mile ride are just as captivating and rewarding with riders taking off at Whataburger Field riding towards Shoreline down Ocean Drive and back to Whataburger Field.

Proceeds generated by the 10th Annual Conquer the Coast benefit the Corpus Christi Chamber Foundation, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander Athletic Fund and various cycling organizations throughout the Coastal Bend.

Early bird registration pricing is available right now with savings of up to $20 on the 65-mile ride and $25 on the 25-mile ride. All pricing goes up on July 1.
