SPRINGDALE, AR - Corpus Christi used 14 hits and strong pitching performances by Yoanys Quiala and Erasmo Pinales to upend Northwest Arkansas, 8-2, Saturday night at Arvest Ballpark.
The top four hitters in the Hooks lineup, Myles Straw, Carmen Benedetti, Yordan Alvarez, and Taylor Jones, combined to go 8-for-17 with four runs, five RBIs, and four walks.
Benedetti's two-run single in the third helped fuel a three-run frame which flipped a 1-0 Naturals edge into a 3-1 Corpus Christi lead. He finished the night with a team-best three RBIs.
Stephen Wrenn led the hit parade with three knocks. Straw notched two singles and two walks, giving him five hits in 10 at-bats on the season. His on-base average stands at .706. Jones' lead-off double in the fifth was Corpus Christi's lone extra-base hit. He is now 5-for-10 at the plate in 2018.
Quiala (1-0) spun five innings of one run ball, striking out five against three hits and three walks. He stranded five men on base, including a pair in scoring position in the fifth.
Pinales, making his Double-A debut, retired 11 of the 13 men he faced, striking out four.
Corpus Christi begins a three-game set against the Arkansas Travelers Sunday afternoon. Akeem Bostick is slated to take the hill for the Hooks.
