Meyer Blast Sends Hooks to Walk-off Win

CORPUS CHRISTI - Jonathan Meyer hit a walk-off three run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to send the Hooks to their ninth win in 11 games, 7-5, over the Midland RockHounds in front 5,778 fans Friday night at Whataburger Field.

Midland took a 5-4 lead in the top of the 10th after Jake Goebbert doubled, was bunted to third and scored on a two-base hit off the bat of Tyler Ladendorf.

Mike DeMark trotted out of the RockHounds bullpen to start the bottom of the inning and struck out Drew Muren. Preston Tucker then doubled to right field and Max Stassi walked to set the stage for Meyer's majestic blast down the left field line. It was his 15th home run of the season.

Corpus Christi trailed for much of the ballgame, unable to get its offense ignited against Midland starting pitcher Zach Neal. He surrendered only a solo home run to Enrique Hernandez in the seventh inning, allowing six hits through seven frames with five strikeouts.

Down 4-1 headed to the eighth, Midland went to its bullpen. Jeff Urlaub started the inning and, around a pair of strike outs, allowed runners to reach on an error and a base hit. Ryan Dull entered the game to face Domingo Santana and gave up a three-run home run into the Hooks bullpen to tie the game at four.

Ross Seaton started for Corpus Christi and battled through early control issues and a pair of solo home runs to allow three earned runs on five hits in six innings. Seaton walked two, struck out three and hit three RockHounds.

Game three of the Hooks set against Midland is Saturday at 7:05 PM. Left-handed pitcher Kyle Hallock (0-0, 5.59) will make his second start of the season for Corpus Christi against southpaw Carlos Hernandez (6-7, 2.29).
