Tulsa Handcuffs Hooks

June 30, 2013

CORPUS CHRISTI - Tyler Matzek pitched five shutout innings as Tulsa blanked Corpus Christi 1-0 Sunday evening at Whataburger Field before 4,687.

Though the Hooks had a base runner in eight of nine frames, Matzek, Leuris Gomez, Isaiah Froneberger and Cole White limited Corpus Christi to three hits.

Matzek (4-6) battled control issues, walking six. He allowed two hits and struck out two. White worked the ninth to earn his ninth save.

Tulsa scored the night's only run in the third off David Martinez, Delta Cleary's sacrifice fly to center pushing Jayson Langfels homeward. Consecutive no-out singles from Langfels and Dallas Tarleton set the table; Tarleton's ricocheted off the right-field wall.

Martinez (10-2), who turned in his longest outing of the season with seven innings, permitted four hits and struck out five.

Hooks second baseman Enrique Hernandez owns a nine-game hitting streak. Right fielder Domingo Santana, who served as the Corpus Christi designated hitter, played for the first time since June 21. He was 0-for-2 and walked twice.

Former Texas Tech Red Raider Bobby Doran (6-1) toes the rubber for Corpus Christi Monday night at 7:05. Tulsa's Sean Gallagher (3-2) provides the opposition.
