Hot Rods Announce 2013 Field Staff

Jared Sandberg to become third manager in franchise history
January 24, 2013
Bowling Green, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods, in conjunction with the Tampa Bay Rays, announce that Jared Sandberg will manage the team in 2013, becoming the third manager in the franchise's five-year history. Sandberg is joined on the field staff by pitching coach Kyle Snyder, coach Manny Castillo, and trainer Chris Tomashoff.

"Jared's winning pedigree will make this new chapter in Hot Rods history an exciting one," said Hot Rods Team President Brad Taylor. "We welcome Jared and Kyle to town and welcome back Manny for another thrilling season with some of the best talent in the Minor Leagues on display at Bowling Green Ballpark."

Sandberg takes over for Brady Williams, who won 218 games in three years in Bowling Green. The Rays have promoted Williams to manage the Advanced-A Charlotte Stone Crabs in 2013. The Olympia, Washington, native spent the last three seasons in Short-Season A Hudson Valley, leading the Renegades to the New York-Penn League championship in 2012. Sandberg, the nephew of Baseball Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg, played parts of three Major League seasons in Tampa Bay (2001-2003).

Snyder begins his second season in the Rays organization as the new pitching coach for the Hot Rods. In his first season as a professional coach, Snyder spent 2012 with Sandberg in Hudson Valley, manning a pitching staff that possessed the third-lowest ERA in the New York-Penn League (2.91). Snyder was a first round pick of the Kansas City Royals in 1999 and spent five seasons in the Majors with the Royals and the Boston Red Sox.

Castillo returns to Bowling Green for his fourth season as a coach with the Hot Rods and his 16th season in the Rays organization. The former Major Leaguer with the Royals and Mariners has spent time at every level from the Dominican Summer League to Double A. 2013 will mark Castillo's 38th season in professional baseball.

Tomashoff has spent 17 years in the Rays organization, including the last two seasons as the trainer for the Gulf Coast League Rays.

The fifth season of Hot Rods baseball in Bowling Green begins with Citizens First Opening Night on Monday, April 8 at 7:05 PM against the Lansing Lugnuts (Future Blue Jays). To order your tickets, visit BGHotRods.com or contact the Hot Rods Front Office at (270) 901-2121.
