Hot Rods Cap Regular Season with Win

Toles finishes season with .326 average, wins MWL batting title
September 2, 2013

Bowling Green, KY - On the final day of the 2013 regular season, the Bowling Green Hot Rods (44-26, 82-56) defeated the Lake County Captains (31-39, 54-83) 10-2 Monday afternoon at Bowling Green Ballpark. The Hot Rods hit four home runs in a game for the first time this season with Leonardo Reginatto, Ryan Dunn, Brandon Martin, and Tyler Goeddel all going deep. The win caps the most successful regular season in franchise history and a 15-4 stretch to end the season.\

Andrew Toles, who did not play in Monday's win, finished the season with a .326 batting average and wins the 2013 Midwest League batting title, becoming the first-ever Hot Rods batter to do so.

Monday's contest was dominated by the Hot Rods, who led throughout and scored in all but two innings at the plate. Bowling Green scored in the first inning on a solo home run for Reginatto, his first home run of the year. For a brief period Monday, Reginatto was 3-of-3 and had overtaken Toles for the league lead in average. However, Reginatto lined out to centerfield in the eighth and will finish fourth-tenths of a percentage point behind Toles.

Marty Gantt and Joey Rickard each drove in a run in the second and third innings before a Reginatto two-run single in the fourth in an inning that included a Dunn solo shot. Martin's home run was a two-run shot in the sixth inning, and Goeddel began the eighth with a solo blast. Jose Molina highlighted the Hot Rods day on the mound with two no-hit innings of relief to earn the win.

With the regular season behind them, the Hot Rods now turn their attention to the 2013 Midwest League Playoffs and their first-round opponent, the Fort Wayne TinCaps (Padres). Game 1 of the Eastern Division Quarterfinals will take place Wednesday night at 7:05 PM CDT at Bowling Green Ballpark. The Hot Rods will send RHP Jeff Ames to the mound opposite RHP Joe Ross of the TinCaps.

Radio coverage begins at 6:35 PM CDT with the Forever Communications Pregame Show hosted by Hank Fuerst and Chris Kleinhans-Schulz. Tune in to the game on 1340 WBGN-AM, 1340wbgn.com, and on the TuneIn Radio app.
