Bowling Green, KY -- Continuing their best brand of baseball of the season, the Bowling Green Hot Rods used three solo homers and another strong performance on the mound en route to a 3-1 win against the South Bend Cubs on Monday night at Bowling Green Ballpark.
The Hot Rods notched their second straight come from behind victory with a trio of solo homers starting in the third inning.
Dpwn 1-0 to start the bottom of the inning, the Hot Rods got back-to-back solo jacks from outfielder Emilio Gustave and infielder Miles Mastrobuoni to turn a deficit into a one-run lead with two swings.
It was the fourth time this year that the Hot Rods have hit back-to-back homers and the third time during the second half of the season.
One inning later, Bowling Green got a solo homer from first basemen Bobby Melley for the final run of the game for either team.
On the pitching side, starter Spencer Moran (W, 1-1) earned his first win of the year in his third start by giving up just one run on three hits through five innings.
To secure the win for the Hot Rods and Moran, both righties Jayson McKinley and Peter Bayer tossed two scoreless innings each to end the game.
For Bayer, the save was his first of the season.
Over the last five games, the Hot Rods pitching staff has only given up a total of seven runs.
With the win, the Hot Rods have now won ten of their last eleven games overall. They have won five straight games, seven straight games against South Bend and are now 11-3 against the Cubs this year.
Overall, the Hot Rods are 25-10 since the start of July.
The Hot Rods will try to continue their winning ways by clinching their second four-game series sweep of the South Bend Cubs in the last two weeks on Tuesday with the last game of a week in Southcentral Kentucky at Bowling Green Ballpark.
