Grand Rapids, MI - To start of a week away from Southcentral Kentucky, the Bowling Green Hot Rods were shutout in the series opener against the West Michigan Whitecaps by a score of 2-0 on Monday night at Fifth Third Ballpark.

For the fourth time this season, the Hot Rods offense was blanked throughout the course of the game, this time by Whitecaps RHP Kyle Funkhouser (W, 4-1).
The Tigers #6 prospect limited the Hot Rods bats to six hits through six innings while striking out eight batters. Relievers Eduardo Jiménez and Bryan Garcia (S, 9) combined to blank the Hot Rods through the final three innings to complete the shutout.
For Garcia, the save was his league-leading ninth of the season.
On the pitching side, RHP JD Busfield (L, 3-2) took the hard-pressed loss while firing a quality start. He gave up just two runs on six hits through six innings.
Busfield has now thrown five or more innings in all six of his starts this season and has given up two runs or less in all of them.
Reliever Dalton Moats also tossed two scoreless innings for Bowling Green, lowering his ERA to 1.33 this season in a team-high 11 appearances.
West Michigan scored their runs in the first inning on a RBI double by first basemen Blaise Salter and in the fifth inning with a RBI single by outfielder Jake Robson.
Salter and Robson each had two hits while outfielder Danny Woodrow scored both runs and had three hits to pace the Whitecaps offensive attack.
Offensively for the Hot Rods, they were paced by three hits from shortstop Lucius Fox . It was the third three-hit game for Fox in the last seven contests.
Aside from Fox, first basemen Nathaniel Lowe hit a single in the eighth inning to increase his team-high hitting streak to 10 games.
The Hot Rods will continue their week on the road on Tuesday with the second game of a three-game series against the West Michigan Whitecaps. Bowling Green will send LHP Brock Burke to the mound while the Whitecaps will counter with lefty Eudis Idrogo.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. eastern time.
