(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- The Chicago White Sox have purchased the contracts of right-handed pitchers Al Alburquerque and Chris Volstad from the Charlotte Knights, as announced earlier today by the White Sox. With the promotion of the two veteran right-handed pitchers, the Knights have now sent a total of 22 players to Chicago in 2017.
Alburquerque, 31, made 10 relief appearances with the Charlotte Knights in 2017 and posted a 0-0 record with two saves and a 4.63 ERA in 11.2 innings pitched. A native of San Pedro de Macoris, DR, Alburquerque combined to post a 2-1 record with five saves and a 2.87 ERA over 32 relief appearances with the Knights and Triple-A Omaha. He also appeared in 11 games with the Kansas City Royals earlier this season and went 0-1 with a 3.60 ERA in 10.0 innings pitched.
Volstad, 30, compiled a 3-10 record with one save and a 5.57 ERA in 118.0 innings pitched this season with the Knights. A native of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Volstad made 18 starts for the Knights in 2017 and appeared in a total of 27 games. The 2017 season marked his second with the Knights. Last year, he went 8-11 with a 4.79 ERA in 29 games (27 starts) over 176.2 innings pitched with Charlotte. He led the International League in innings pitched in 2016.
